Sandpoint Grad Makes College ‘Who’s Who’ List
Courtney Ferguson, daughter of Tim and Debbie Ferguson of Sandpoint, was recently named to the 1997 Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
Ferguson, a senior majoring in English at the University of Puget Sound, was chosen based on service to her community, leadership in extracurricular activities, academic achievement and potential for continued success.
Ferguson is a 1993 Sandpoint High School graduate and works as a disc jockey for KUPS-FM. She is a member of the student newspaper staff and serves as a programmer for campus films.
Lonnie Lovett, has been named by his peers as the Best Western Templin’s Resort’s Employee of the Month for March.
Lovett, a food server with Templin’s since 1995, was cited for professional and courteous attitude and maintaining high customer service.
The Sandpoint Elks Lodge No. 1376 recently selected April and May Students of the Month from local high schools. Students and their high schools are listed.
April: Jennifer Vorhies, Priest River; Jeremy Powell, Clark Fork; Jean-Pierre Huguenin, Sandpoint; Clinton Arthur, Bonners Ferry; and Joanna Bitton, Lake Pend Oreille.
May: Tim Suenkel, Priest River; Justin Boeck, Sandpoint; Danny Bahe, Bonners Ferry; and Jason Stevens, Clark Fork.
Students will be presented with a dictionary-thesaurus at a dinner later this month in recognition of their achievements.
Brenda Wood of Sandpoint and Mark Hutchins of Worley, Idaho, took third and seventh places, respectively, in the Idaho Heifer of the Year contest recently.
Wood will receive a $150 college scholarship from First Security Bank, and Hutchins will receive a $30 gift certificate from Walco International.
More than 200 youths in grades 7 through 12 entered the competition, which was sponsored by the Idaho Cattle Association. The top prize was a registered purebred heifer.
Mauri Brooks, Priest River, has been awarded the 1997 Ken Troutt Memorial Scholarship from this year’s Cowman’s Classic All Breed Bull Sale in Spokane.
The scholarship is awarded annually to an incoming college freshman whose family has been involved as a buyer or seller at the sale.
