Garco Lands Major Canadian Contract

From Staff And Wire Reports

Garco Building Systems, an Airway Heights manufacturer of metal buildings, has struck a deal to annually provide a giant Canadian mining company with structures worth $5 million to $10 million.

Placer Dome Inc of Vancouver, British Columbia, with 8,300 employees, will buy Garco structures for its mining mills, repair shops and warehouses.

The deal will boost Garco sales, which were $19.9 million in 1996, by up to 50 percent, and employment levels from 140 to 160 people.

“It’s a big hit,” Garco president Bill Savitz said Thursday. “They’ve bought buildings from others, but concluded that projects go smoother with us.”
