In The House Of Kennedy, Little Kittens Rule The Roost
Before she became the wife of John F. Kennedy Jr., former Calvin Klein assistant Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy liked to adopt what hairdresser Brad Johns calls “a surfer look, tousled and sexy, like a little kid at the beach.”
Times have changed. “Since John Kennedy married her, she became more regal,” John says. “So now I make her hair a paler blond with a hint of Grace Kelly demureness, which is how she wants to present herself.”
Now, is that the Grace Kelly of pre-Monaco, Alfred Hitchcock ice-princess fame? Or post-Monaco, three-kid, matron-with-a-drink-in-her-hand fame? The former, naturally.
Johns makes that clear by disclosing the subject of their regular visits, in which they “are chatting all the time, usually about her pets. She has a little kitten that she adores.”

Winona Ryder on her peers (in Life magazine): “Actors aren’t heroes to me. Most are incredibly disappointing. I hate meeting actors I admire. They are not who you imagine.”

So much for Ellen’s high school fan section
Phil Rice knew Ellen DeGeneres way back when. They both attended high school in Atlanta, Texas, and he recalls her as “a cute, blonde, tan, American girl.” A passable kisser, DeGeneres seemed just like anyone else, Rice told “American Journal.” Convinced she “is making a mistake” by coming out as a lesbian on her sitcom, Rice says he will not let his son watch the April 30 episode.
Otherwise, we’d have 24 hours of ‘Who’s the Boss?’
There are those who say that art is whatever people will pay for. Baloney, says Ken Burns. The documentary filmmaker, whose studies of the Civil War and baseball have won numerous awards, decries the “misguided souls” who equate marketing with quality. As he told Auburn (Ala.) University journalism students Monday, only Public Televison gave him the artistic freedom he needed, “unfettered by the very demand the marketplace often exerts.”
We hear he’s trying to score Lauren Bacall’s phone number
Elizabeth Taylor finally saw her eighth marriage, to Larry Fortensky, end on Monday. No financial details were released, but Taylor’s lawyer - Arlene Colman-Schwimmer (mother of “Friends” star David Schwimmer) - said Fortensky got less than his $1.5 million asking price.
That makes him, what, Mike Todd to her Liz Taylor?
Oasis lead singer Liam Gallagher seemed to know what he was doing. Successfully avoiding the paparazzi, the 24-year-old rock star married his 29-year-old girlfriend, actress Patsy Kensit, in private on Monday. But Gallagher may have a surprise ahead of him. Though this is his first marriage, he is Kensit’s third rock-star husband. First husband Dan Donovan of Big Audio Dynamite lasted barely three months, and she divorced Jim Kerr of Simple Minds just last year.
