Six Shot, 4 Killed In Phone Dispute

Compiled From Wire Services

Three men burst into a house and shot six people, four of them fatally, in what investigators said was a dispute over a stolen cellular telephone.

Capital murder charges were filed Thursday against Joey Wilson, 19, Corey S. Johnson, 23, and Nicholas Bernard Acklin, 24, in the attack Wednesday night.

Police said the men invaded the home Ashley Rutherford and his fiancee shared with his aunt, who was in an upstairs room and was unhurt. Rutherford, who works nearby, walked in on the violence.

Killed were Michael Amedie Beaudette, 19, Brian Carter, 21, Johnny Couch, 18, and Charles Lamar Hemphill. Rutherford’s fiancee, Michelle Hayden, 17, was critically wounded. Rutherford, 22, was not seriously hurt.

Hemphill had filed a police report accusing Wilson of stealing a cellular telephone from him.
