Dollar Marginally Lower
The dollar fell slightly against most currencies Monday, reflecting some uncertainty in the foreign-exchange market over whether the Federal Reserve will raise interest rates at a Tuesday policy-making meeting.
But the dollar’s decline was limited, partly due to weakness in the mark. The German currency retreated against the yen and most European currencies on fears about the health of Russian President Boris Yeltsin and optimism about progress toward conversion to a single European currency in 1999.
Dealings were light due to the Autumn Equinox holiday in Japan and the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which kept many traders out of the market.
