Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: When it was time to wash the outside windows, I used to use a commercially made solution but now would like to try your mixture for a window-washing solution. I’ve read it many times but never thought I needed to keep it. - M.R. Lantz

Well, there are several window cleaning solutions you can use. Since you didn’t specify, I’ll repeat all three and you can choose one you like.

Mix 4 to 6 tablespoons nonsudsy ammonia in 1 gallon of water.

Add 1/2 cup vinegar to 1/2 gallon of water.

Or, combine 1/2 cup isopropyl rubbing alcohol, 1/2 cup ammonia and 1/2 cup water.

Put your homemade window cleaner in a spray bottle and label it well.

All you need to do is spray the solution on windows and wipe dry with a wad of newspaper.

Recycling and using environmentally friendly cleaners are some of my favorite hints. - Heloise
