Agreement Likely For Boutros-Gahli Term
Boutros Boutros-Ghali could remain U.N. secretary-general for another two years - but no longer - under a compromise being submitted by Germany and its European partners, a news magazine reported Saturday.
The United States has said it would use its veto in the Security Council if necessary to deny another five-year term for Boutros-Ghali, whose first term ends Dec. 31. Washington says Boutros-Ghali has not done enough to reform the world body.
