Taiwan In No Hurry To Warm Up To China
President Lee Teng-hui said Saturday that Taiwan is in no hurry to improve ties with China, and he accused Beijing of trying to turn Taiwanese business leaders against his government by offering increased trade ties.
China “is exerting pressure on us … by resorting to such tactics as mixing politics with trade,” Lee said told a meeting of leading business executives. “We must deal with the current situation by holding on to the principles of patience and avoiding any rush.”
