Quartz Trail Started

Nordic skiing

Construction has begun on a cross-country ski trail that would link existing trails in Mount Spokane State Park to form a loop around Quartz Mountain.

With some luck from the weather, the trail could be finished for this winter, said Pete Wood, state park manager.

Meanwhile, volunteers are needed to clear trails before the first snowfall. The Inland Empire Nordic Club has scheduled a work party for Oct. 6. Meet at Selkirk Lodge at 9 a.m. Bring buck saws, chain saws and protective gear, loppers and shovels, plus work gloves, boots and hat. Most volunteers also bring a bag lunch and water.
