Harold Herman Spokane
Service for Harold P. Herman, 82, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Pines Cemetery Mausoleum. Private interment will be at the Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Herman, who was born in Odessa, Wash., died Friday.
He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He later worked for General Electric Supply Co. for 39 years and retired in 1984.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Bernetta; two daughters, Diane Zweigardt of Spokane and Pamela Bergman of Tum Tum; a son, David Herman of Seattle; a brother, Art Herman of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.
Thomas Barton Spokane
Memorial service for Thomas L. Barton, 66, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Barton, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.
He graduated from Rogers High School and Eastern Washington State College. He received his master’s degree in Minneapolis.
Mr. Barton taught at Columbia Basin Community College and was a professor of English at Washington State University for 20 years.
He was a member of the National Council of Teachers of English, supervised the English language program for the state of Washington and was a co-founder of the Inland Northwest Writing Project.
He is survived by his wife, Sarann; two sons, Stephan Barton and Michael Daly, both of Spokane; four daughters, Christine Kelly of Murphys, Calif., Teresa Hanson of San Francisco, Julie Harlan of Salem, Ore., and Sarann Graham of Spokane; a sister, Barbara Johnson of Seattle; and two grandchildren.
Marion Jones Pullman
Visitation for Marion M. Jones, 77, will be from noon to 3 p.m. today at Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman. Service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman. Burial will follow at the Pullman City Cemetery.
Mrs. Jones, who was born in Iowa, died Wednesday.
She was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and also attended the University of Idaho and the University of California at Berkeley, where she received her bachelor’s degree in English literature. She worked as a homemaker.
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church and the International Students Inc.
She is survived by her husband, Charles; four sons, Richard Jones of Seattle, Thomas Jones of Pullman, Henry Jones of Sherwood, Ore., and William Jones of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; two daughters, Julie Rabine of Seattle and Mary Gilmore of Spokane; one sister, Jane Raney of Bellingham; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Beryl (Stenstrom) Truscott Kennewick
Service for Beryl L. (Stenstrom) Truscott, 88, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Truscott, who was born in Bemidji, Minn., died Wednesday.
She was a graduate of Bonners Ferry High School and worked for several years as a camp cook in mining camps in Washington, Idaho and Montana. She also worked as a sales clerk and bookkeeper in retail businesses.
Mrs. Truscott was a member of the Central United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her three husbands, Lloyd Stenstrom, Robert Battle and Edmond Truscott.
Survivors include a son, Jack Stenstrom of West Richland, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Pat Porter of Beatty, Nev., and Mary Waters of Spokane; a stepson, Steve Truscott of Walla Walla; a brother, Gordon Bishop of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; two sisters, Connie Parker of Wasilla, Ark., and Lenore Huddleston of Bell Gardens, Calif.; two grandchildren; nine stepgrandchildren; three great-grandchildren and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.
Valera Holland Spokane
Service for Valera M. Holland, 72, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rock Chapel in Fairmount Memorial Park Cemetery. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Holland, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Friday. She was a graduate of Lewis and Clark High School and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the East Horizon Homemakers Club of Spokane and the Parents Teachers Association at Alcott Elementary.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Kenneth; two sons, Daniel Holland of Spokane and Douglas Holland of Forks, Wash.; two daughters, Barbara Elliott and Virginia Erickson, both of Spokane; a brother, Neal Couey of Oxnard, Calif.; a sister, Joyce Daschbach of Spokane; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
