Virginia Tech broke a school-record with its 12th consecutive victory. The Hokies’ streak is second in Division I-A to Nebraska’s 26.
Washington’s defense had eight sacks and a safety to derail the high-powered Brigham Young offense.
Wyoming had 509 yards, 27 first downs and a 35-0 lead in the first half of its 66-0 victory over Hawaii.
Darnell Autry extended his streak of 100-yard games to 15 with 157 yards in Northwestern’s 38-13 win over Duke.
Virginia’s Tony Dingle returned an interception 10 yards for a TD and recovered a fumble to set up another score. The Cavs also extended to 31 their NCAA-record streak of games with at least one interception.
Army became the last of the I-A teams to open its season, defeating Ohio U. 37-20.
