Iverson Set To Sign Three-Year Contract With Philadelphia

Compiled From Wire Services

The Philadelphia 76ers have reached contract terms with Allen Iverson, the No.1 pick in the National Basketball Association draft and the player the team hopes will lead Philadelphia’s revival.

The team has scheduled a news conference today for Iverson to sign the three-year deal, which according to sources, was worth $9.6 million, the most money allowed under the NBA’s rookie salary cap.

Iverson, 21, averaged 23 points during his two-year career with Georgetown. He left the Hoyas after his sophomore season.

The Sixers expect to move Iverson to the point, where he will be called upon to deliver the ball to guard Jerry Stackhouse and forward Derrick Coleman.

The Atlanta Hawks moved to fill their most troublesome position, signing forwards Tyrone Corbin and Willie Burton.

Corbin, who played for Atlanta during the 1994-95 season, and Burton will make the NBA minimum salary of $247,500.
