Money Is Out There And Workshops Help You Get It

Nancy Slack Correspondent

Nonprofit executive directors, development officers, board members and fund-raising volunteers can strengthen their organizations’ fund-raising efforts during two hands-on workshops next month offered by Adams and Associates Consulting, Inc.

“Creating a Successful Grants Program” will be from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., Oct. 11, and “Communications and Marketing for Your Organization” will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Oct. 25.

Both workshops at Gonzaga University’s Schoenberg Center will include reference manuals with workshop information, charts and work sheets for participants to use in their offices.

The events are sponsored by Junior League of Spokane and KXLY-TV with support from Internet On-ramp. Scholarships are provided by Foundation Northwest.

Deadline for the $40 half-day grants workshop is Oct. 1, and Oct. 25 for the full-day communications session. Fees include instruction, reference materials and a continental breakfast. Lunch is included in the full-day program.

Space is limited, so register early. Call 747-3878 for more information or a registration form.

More events

More than 427,000 women in Washington are not registered to vote. And by not voting, women give up the power to effect issues that concern them, including employment, crime, education and health care.

In an attempt to increase women’s participation in the 1996 presidential election, Spokane’s YWCA joined the Council of Presidents, a national coalition of leaders from more than 110 nonprofit women’s organizations.

Judith Gilmore, Eastern Washington’s representative from the Office of the Governor, will explain how government affects women and the difference their votes can make during a brown-bag lecture from noon to 1 p.m., Monday, in the YWCA’s Comstock Room. A question-and-answer period will follow.

Voter registration will be open that day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Johnston Lounge.

The non-partisan event is an issue-based effort and does not endorse any party or candidate. For more information, call Fran Green, 326-1190, ext. 128.

The Catholic Foundation of the Spokane Diocese will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a dinner program, Sept. 18.

The evening’s activities begin with a social hour at 6:15 in the diocese’s Catholic Pastoral Center, 1023 W. Riverside, followed by dinner at the Spokane Club.

The Most Rev. James P. Keleher, archbishop for Kansas City, Kan., and a noted authority on stewardship, will be the featured speaker.

Since 1991, the foundation has distributed more that $3 million to Eastern Washington churches.

Reservations for the $45 event will be accepted through Wednesday.

Carmen Hagman, state museum correspondent for the Daughters of the American Revolution, will present a slide program on “Historical Period Rooms” in the group’s Washington, D.C. museum on Saturday, when the Esther Reed Chapter meets at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 314 S. Spruce.

Regent Elna Anne Paulson will preside at the 11 a.m. business meeting, followed by a luncheon and the program.

Women interested in DAR may attend. For more information, call 838-1502.

Members of the Spokane Garry Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution are to bring an item their ancestors brought West with them for Tuesday’s meeting. The National DAR Society is compiling a book honoring pioneer women.

Interested women may attend the monthly noon meetings each second Tuesday, September through May, at Liberty Park United Methodist Church, 1526 E. 11th.
