Allen Mattausch Cited At Vfw Convention
Allen R. Mattausch, Fairfield, was named All American Post Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. The honor was presented at the annual VFW convention in Louisville, Ky.
Mattausch is one of 135 VFW post commanders nationwide selected for All-American status.
Bobbi Robinson, Post 11326 Quartermaster in Cheney, received an Aide de Camp Award for service to the national commander-in-chief.
Sherry Ellen Hietala, a graduate of Spokane Falls Community College, received a NASA space grant scholarship. She will study physics at the University of Washington this fall.
Bea McElroy received a National Service Award from the Volunteers of America for her work with Spokane’s homeless and runaway youth.
She was honored during the VOA’s 100th annual meeting held in Spokane.
McElroy, active with Spokane’s VOA for 10 years, has provided “invaluable assistance” at Crosswalk for street kids: She operates its clothing bank, Bea’s Boutique, serves lunch, and acts as Crosswalk ambassador to churches, service clubs and agencies.
The Washington State Board of Accountancy announced the names of Inland Northwest residents who passed their Uniform Certified Public Accountant Examination last May.

Erika McCray was appointed a community relations student body officer with the student senate at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho. A sophomore from Spokane, McCray is an elementary education major.
Emily Lowe, a graduate of Mead High School, is one of 100 James E. Casey Scholarship winners selected in a nationwide competition. The value of each four-year undergraduate scholarship ranges from $8,000 to $24,000.
Lowe, daughter of Randy and Theresa Lowe, Spokane, will attend Eastern Washington University in the fall.
