Tough Drunk Driving Laws Supported
Americans favor strong drunk-driving laws aimed at teens and oppose lowering the legal drinking age from 21 to 18, a study over the Labor Day weekend shows.
And two-thirds of those surveyed in a Louis Harris poll favor releasing photos of repeat drunk-driving offenders to newspapers and television stations once the suspects have been convicted and had their licenses revoked.
“The heavy sentiment to widely disseminate the names and photos of those who are convicted for drunk driving is a significant development, for it means the American people are playing for keeps to put an end to the tragic consequences of drunk driving,” the survey said.
The poll of 1,000 adults found 91 percent favored immediate suspension of teen drivers using alcohol.
The survey also found that 78 percent oppose rolling back the legal drinking age from 21 to 18.
