Associated Industries To Hold Conference

Associated Industries of the Inland Northwest will sponsor a conference on new international environmental guidelines Thursday at the Gonzaga University Foley Center Library.

Participants will see a tape of the first teleconference on the ISO 14000 standards, and hear a live presentation by Bart Solomon, one of a few qualified to perform registration assessments.

The conference starts at 8 a.m. and concludes at 12:30 p.m. The cost is $45. To register, or for more information, call Nancy Gurnea at 323-2641 or 326-6885.

Gurnea said companies that do business in some European countries, or that supply those companies, will have to meet ISO 14000 standards or risk being shut out.

The Washington Department of Ecology has awarded Associated Industries a grant to help fund ISO 14000 preparation and registration for four or five local companies acting as a consortium.

Gurnea said contracts with potential consortium members are not yet complete.

They would be among the first companies to qualify under the guidelines in the United States.
