Kemp Carries Sonics To Win Over Lakers

Shawn Kemp had 30 points and nine rebounds to carry the Seattle SuperSonics to a 99-94 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in an NBA exhibition game Friday night.

Kemp connected on 10 of 19 field-goal attempts in recording his game-high scoring total. Detlef Schrempf added 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The Sonics outscored the Lakers 12-6 in the final 3:37 to erase an 88-87 deficit.

Los Angeles’ Elden Campbell gave the Lakers the 88-87 lead before Kemp and Schrempf scored consecutive baskets to move Seattle ahead 91-88.

Campbell hit two more free throws to bring Los Angeles within a point, but Kemp and Schrempf combined for the next six points to put the Lakers away.

Sam Perkins scored 14 for Seattle while Byron Scott led the Lakers with 16.

Cedric Ceballos added 15, Eddie Jones 14 and Shaquille O’Neal and Derek Fisher 13 for Los Angeles.
