D.C. United Rallies In Overtime To Top L.A. For First Mls Cup
Eddie Pope headed in Marco Etcheverry’s corner kick 3-1/2 minutes into overtime to complete D.C. United’s rally from a two-goal deficit to beat the Los Angeles Galaxy 3-2 Sunday in the inaugural Major League Soccer Cup.
Tony Sanneh started the comeback by scoring off a free kick in the 73rd minute.
Shawn Medved tied it with 8 minutes remaining.
Despite the horrible weather, which included 30-mph wind gusts, MLS Cup ‘96 still drew a crowd of 34,643 to the 58,000-seat Foxboro Stadium.
