Jimmy Day Colville Year: Senior Sport: Football Position: Qb

Colville quarterback Jimmy Day spent a year away from football his sophomore year because, he said, he was burned out on all sports.

Last week it was Day who did the burning, throwing three touchdown passes and running for another to defeat defending Frontier League champion Cheney.

Day completed 13 of 18 passes for 151 yards, but deferred credit for his success in the 28-11 triumph.

“I think it was because of our offensive line, that’s where most of the credit goes,” said Day. “We’ve had pretty good quarterbacks in the past and shaky lines. I didn’t get sacked once.”

Day came back to football last year, sharing the quarterback spot with Josh Salina. Now, the move of Salina to receiver has given him a bigger target and improved Colville’s passing attack. The team was confident it could beat Cheney.

Still, “this caught me off guard,” said Day. “I’ve never really had that big an impact in a game.”

His rushing touchdown, from 16 yards out, came on an option play.

“It was my first run all night,” said Day. “(The end) saw the running back dive down, crashed on him and it was wide open up the right side.”
