Clinton’s State Co-Chair Quits
The co-chairwoman of President Clinton’s reelection campaign in Washington state has resigned because of Clinton’s decision to support a Republican bill that would deny recognition of gay marriages.
“This bill is mean-spirited and discriminatory,” Seattle City Councilwoman Tina Podlodowski said Sunday.
“I’m still supportive of the president, and I will vote for him, but I didn’t want to sign on for that particular role in the campaign,” Podlodowski said.
Clinton announced his support last week for what Republicans call the Defense of Marriage Act, even though Congress has taken no action on the bill and there is a good chance it will never pass.
Podlodowski, who is a lesbian, said she was asked nearly two months ago to help lead Clinton’s campaign in this state, a job that primarily involves raising money.
