Greg Louganis, a former Olympic diving champion, was quoted in a published report as saying he was disappointed that he would not be an analyst for NBC during the Olympics. NBC said he never was offered the job, nor did he show any interest in it.

The New York Post reported that the network had decided against using Louganis as a diving commentator. The Post said Louganis, who announced in 1994 that he was gay and disclosed last year that he had AIDS, had let it be known that he was eager to work the Olympics for NBC.

Markey said Louganis will work for NBC in Atlanta, but Cynthia Potter will be the diving analyst.

Linda Brenneman led a pack across the finish line to win the first road race of the U.S. Olympic women’s cycling trials in Wheeling, W.Va.

Lisa Arce and Karolyn Kirby, playing together for the first time, and Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes, the top-ranked team on the AVP Tour, were selected as the top seeds for the USOC’s Beach Volleyball Olympic Team Trials, June 4-9, in Baltimore, Md.

European soccer’s governing body gave in and agreed there would be no limit on the number of foreign players when next season starts.

UEFA secretary General Gerhard Aigner said that the new rule would apply to all foreigners, not just players from European Union countries.
