Dole’s Successor To Be Announced

Associated Press

The governor scheduled a news conference for this afternoon amid word from Republican sources that Lt. Gov. Sheila Frahm will accept his appointment as Bob Dole’s successor in the Senate.

A spokesman for Gov. Bill Graves confirmed Thursday that the purpose of the news conference is to discuss Dole’s successor but refused to confirm or deny if Graves has settled on Frahm.

Republican Party sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, said they understand Frahm has agreed to accept the appointment and would run for election to the remainder of Dole’s term.

Graves told reporters Monday that Frahm was the leading contender for the job.
