Treats From The Old Country
FOR THE RECORD: May 23, 1996 Collier’s German sweet bars are not available at Jacob’s Java espresso stands, as wrongly reported in Wednesday’s IN Food section.
If you think bratwurst, wiener schnitzel and sauerkraut are all there is to German cuisine, the German sweet bars from Collier’s Culinary Classics in Spokane may make you think again.
Made from a recipe handed down through several generations of Denny Collier’s family, the sweet bars are rich squares of cake, studded with chocolate chips and flavored with maple, almond and vanilla, generously coated with powdered sugar - truly, a Deutsch treat.
Price: $1.50 each; special orders also available of four for $5.75, or eight for $11.
Available: At Jacob’s Java espresso stands in Spokane, Cheney, and Airway Heights, or by calling 459-1823.
