Personalities Realistic In Fantasy Tale
“Ladylord,” by Sasha Miller, is a unique story. It’s the tale of Lady Javere, called Javerri. She is the daughter of Qai, Lord of the Third Province. Qai’s dying wish is to have Javerri become the next Third Lord, but in the realm of the five provinces, women are not allowed to rule.
Qai has no sons, so Javerri has been trained in all the skills of a lord. On his deathbed, Qai names Javerri his heir and also his son. The course of Javerri’s life is changed forever.
The First Lord sends Javerri on a task to prove herself worthy of the lordship. The task is an errand which is considered close to impossible: She must bring the First Lord a dragon’s egg.
During the journey, Javerri and her companions are faced with many perils and hazards, including the dragons themselves. But the greatest hazards lie in the minds and plans of the people she has left behind in the five provinces.
Miller has created a fascinating story of a world ruled by men in which a single woman must challenge tradition in order to survive. Miller weaves the story expertly. Each character is given a distinct personality and they are fully believable.
At the same time, it is easy to feel sympathy for the problems of some of the characters. Miller portrays a realm in which loyalty, honor and courage are valued above everything, and these characteristics exist side by side with betrayal and treachery.
It’s a realm that is highly civilized and yet, at times, cruel beyond belief.
Miller builds the story to its gripping climax well. The story flows smoothly. Filled with adventure, there is never a dull moment in “Ladylord”
It’s an original and clever tale.
