Hungary Recognizes Gay Relationships
Common-law relationships between homosexuals will be recognized under a law adopted Tuesday by Hungary’s Parliament.
The new law will entitle gays to inherit property from their partners and receive a deceased partner’s pension, but will not allow them to adopt children.
Parliament members approved the civil code amendment 207 to 73, with five abstentions.
The amendment was required after a Constitutional Court ruled in March 1995 that recognition of common-law relationships must be extended to homosexual couples.
