Cedar Post Staff Wins Several Awards
Frank Cipriano, the Sandpoint senior who wrote today’s story on Shanda Ginter, cleaned up in a recent journalism contest - as did the school’s entire journalism class.
Cipriano won the “Story of the Year” award and $200 from the annual Idaho Press Women competition for his story about Ginter. He also took first place in news writing and an honorable mention in page design.
The Cedar Post, the high school’s newspaper, also won the sweepstakes award for earning the most points in the competition. Seven Cedar Post students won 18 awards, including seven first-place nods.
Editor Kyle Delamarter was a triple winner. He took first and second place in editorial cartooning, and second in editorial writing. Assistant editor Mike Delucchi also won three awards: first and second in page layout and third in feature writing.
Photo editor Kelly Tucker earned first and second place in photography while writers Becca Camp and Jennifer Dean took first place in sports writing and editorial writing, respectively.
Feature editor Natalie Middleton took three awards home: third and honorable mention in feature writing and second in sports writing. Middleton also won a national Quill and Scroll gold key this year for sports writing.
And finally, at last month’s JEA national convention in San Francisco, four Cedar Post and Monticola (yearbook) students won awards: Annie Love, Cory Myers, Becca Camp and Mitchell Green.
Congrats to everyone!
