Postal Service Collects Tons Of Food For Food Bank
Mail carriers collected more than 200,000 pounds of non-perishable goods Saturday as part of a one-day nationwide food drive.
This was the third consecutive year that donations have topped 200,000 pounds, said Ann Price, Spokane Food Bank development manager.
An exact total for Saturday’s drive won’t be available until Monday, but carriers gathered 205,000 pounds last year.
Saturday’s food drive is the biggest of the year for the Spokane Food Bank, Price said. The canned and dry goods will help keep the food bank’s shelves stocked through the summer months.
Plastic shopping bags used to collect the food were donated by Rosauers. They were distributed to residents in Spokane, Cheney, Medical Lake, Airway Heights, Deer Park, Elk and Colville last week.
