Ncaa Grants Grizzly 6th Year
The NCAA has allowed Billy Ivey a sixth year of eligibility so he can play football at the University of Montana this fall.
Normally, athletes are allowed five years of school to complete four seasons of athletic competition.
The NCAA rarely grants a sixth year of eligibility and usually only for extreme medical reasons. Ivey’s was a mishandling of paperwork admitted by UM officials.
Ivey, a 5-foot-10, 180-pound cornerback, signed with the Grizzlies in the spring of 1994. He played two seasons at Mount San Antonio College in California.
UM athletic department officials admitted to providing Ivey with the wrong information concerning his associate degree from the JC.
Ivey was ruled ineligible to play and attended another JC to complete the necessary requirements.
