Academic Scholarships Awarded To Area Seniors

Christopher Haagen, Moscow High School, and Melania Jones, Sandpoint High School, each received a $2,650 academic scholarship from the State Board of Education.

The high school seniors were chosen based on academic achievement and can renew the scholarships each year for four years if high academic standards are maintained.

Sarah Maki, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Maki of Moscow, was recently honored as Aggie of the Year by the Washington State University College of Agriculture and Home Economics.

Maki, a December agriculture graduate from Moscow, maintained a grade-point average of 3.97 at WSU and was named to the Dean’s List and President’s honor roll. She was also inducted into National Golden Key, Phi Kappa Phi and Gamma Sigma honor societies.

Currie has worked in District Court for the duration of her career and has been the Civil Department supervisor for the past 10-1/2 years. She intends to travel the country with her husband, Ralph, and eventually settle on the Washington coast.

Melody J. Arnold, a Priest River resident, has enlisted in the Army.

Arnold, a 1994 graduate of Chimacum High School in Chimacum, Wash., and the daughter of Cindy Frogner of Chimacum, will become a petroleum supply specialist and recently departed for basic training at Fort Knox, Ky.
