Do Your Part To Help Prevent Teen Suicide
Suicide is the third largest cause of teenage death in the United States. Even locally, the rates of suicide attempts and deaths have increased. Most of you probably know someone on a first-name basis who has contemplated suicide.
The Suicide Prevention Task Force has decided that the subject has been ignored for too long, so they’ve scheduled a ribbon campaign and a candlelight vigil for the area.
The light-green ribbons will be handed out during Suicide Prevention Week, May 6-10, at schools, community centers, etc. Look for them and wear one.
The vigil is Friday at 7:15 p.m. at the Clock Tower in Riverfront Park. If you’d like to participate in the walk that will take place right before the vigil, meet at the County Health District Building, 1101 W. College, at 6:45 p.m.
Call Bill Mayes at 324-1473 for more information on the vigil or the ribbons.
