Shadle’s Hayden Handcuffs Rogers In 4-2 Victory
Shadle Park’s Eric Hayden threw a four-hitter Thursday to help the Highlanders beat visiting Rogers 4-2 in Greater Spokane League baseball.
In other games, Central Valley topped University 14-11, Mead beat Lewis and Clark 9-2 and Gonzaga Prep beat North Central 7-0.
At Shadle (2-0), Hayden also came up with a two-run double in the decisive fourth inning that put the Highlanders up for good.
Sean Carlson took the loss for the Pirates (0-2).
At U-Hi, CV (1-1) scored seven runs in the fourth. As for the Titans (1-1), they hit four home runs in the contest.
At Mead, the Panthers won their season opener with the help of pitcher Evan Thomas’ seven strikeouts.
Sam Hess’ two-run homer gave the Panthers an early lead.
LC (0-2) committed four errors.
At G-Prep, Brian Cox of the Bullpups (2-0) allowed three hits over six innings while striking out eight to get his first win of the season.
G-Prep’s Paul Grief had two hits, drove in a run and scored two, and teammate Mike Kocharhook was 2 for 3, scored two runs, drove in a run and stole two bases.
Softball
G-Prep dominated host LC from start to finish to win 13-5 at Hart Field.
Elsewhere, CV beat Shadle 8-3, NC stopped Rogers 14-7 and Mead beat Ferris, 9-5.
G-Prep’s Theresa Palmer was 4 for 5 with four RBIs to topple LC.
Olivia Smith of the Tigers (0-3) was 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Smith is 7 for 8 (.875 batting average) this year.
At CV, with the score tied at 3, the Bears (2-1) scored five runs in the sixth to put away the game.
CV’s Jessica Sackman was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Amanda DelMese had a solo homer. The Highlanders fell to 0-3.
At NC, the Indians (3-1) scored 11 runs in the second to sail past Rogers (2-2).
NC’s Shanelle Test slapped three hits and drove in three runs.
At Mead, the Panthers (3-0) earned the win, but the game wasn’t pretty. Mead and Ferris (0-3) combined to commit 10 errors.
Mead’s Holly Turner had three RBIs, and Kristin Fuller had three hits, one of which was a three-run homer.
In a Frontier League double-header at West Valley, the Eagles defeated Colville 4-1, 4-3.
WV pitcher Darcy Sohns threw 11 out of a possible 16 innings. The second game went nine innings.
Sohns relieved Carie Koker in the fifth inning of the first game and struck out six batters in two innings to preserve Koker’s win.
In the second game, Sohns pitched all the way and had 15 strikeouts.
Rachel Watkins and Jennifer Robinson were both 4 for 7 for WV. Watkins scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth of the nightcap.
Boys soccer
WV’s Quinn Sharpe registered a hat trick in the Eagles’ 6-3 win at Clarkston.
WV moved out to a 5-0 lead at the end of the first half and cruised.
WV’s Lenny Peterson scored a goal and added two assists. The Eagles finished with 28 shots on goal to Clarkston’s seven.
