Three Men Beat, Rob Downtown Coin Dealer

From Staff Reports

Three men - one of them armed - beat a downtown coin dealer Friday and robbed his store.

The 47-year-old victim told police two men walked into his shop at 508 W. Sprague about 5 p.m.

One of the men had what looked like a handgun, police said. He walked behind a display case and hit the victim in the head with the gun.

A third man came into the store and the robbers took an unknown amount of jewelry, diamonds and coins.

The robbers started to leave, but one of them said he wanted to kill the owner, police said.

The robbers argued briefly and ran from the store to a 1995 Ford. They drove west on Sprague Avenue before turning north onto Wall Street.

The victim was treated at an area hospital and released, said police spokesman Dick Cottam.

One of the robbers was described as between 45 and 50 years old, about 5-feet-9 and 190 pounds. A second was 35, 6-feet-5 and 175 to 190 pounds. No description of the third man was available.
