Pepperdine 5-4, Gonzaga 0-2

Offensive production has eluded Gonzaga University during its early introduction to the West Coast Conference.

The Zags, no-hit by Pepperdine during their WCC debut Friday, responded by dropping a 5-0, 4-2 doubleheader to the Waves at Malibu, Calif.

Senior left-hander Greg Gregory (4-3) checked GU on one hit Brendan Hare’s fourth-inning single - in the opener. Jason LeBlanc (2-2) won the nightcap as Randy Wolf, who hurled Friday’s no-no, went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

The Bulldogs (5-9, 0-3) dropped their fourth straight. Pepperdine is 16-11, 7-0.

A pair of Zags errors helped the Waves to three first-inning runs in the opener.

In the second game, Pepperdine jumped out 2-0 on fielder’s choice grounders in the first. Although Hare’s solo homer in the second and Rob Pearsall’s RBI double in the third kept GU close, wild pitches by starter Steve Bennett (1-1) set up the Waves’ other two runs.
