Oregon Signs With Warners

The University of Oregon has signed a contract with Warner Bros. to allow filming at the Hayward Field track for “Pre,” one of two movies planned on the life of distance runner Steve Prefontaine.

University officials said they have had no contact with Disney, which is preparing the other Prefontaine movie.

At one point, the university announced it favored the Disney movie because it had bought the rights to the story from Prefontaine’s family. But as last summer passed and neither project moved forward, the university changed its position.

Prefontaine held every American record from 2,000 meters to 10,000 meters when he died in a 1975 car crash in Eugene.
