Art Historian, Critic Meyer Schapiro Dies
Meyer Schapiro, an art historian, critic, lifelong radical and professor emeritus at Columbia University, has died. He was 91.
Schapiro died Sunday at his Manhattan home.
Schapiro made his name in 1931 as a historian and educator of Romanesque sculpture, but he also wrote on 19th century and early 20th century art.
A four-volume series of Schapiro’s selected essays and lectures was published in 1994.
