Linda Massey Receives Faculty Excellence Award
Linda Massey, professor and coordinator of the food science and human nutrition program at Washington State UniversitySpokane, has won the 1996 WSU Spokane Faculty Excellence Award.
Massey joined WSU in 1978 after receiving her doctorate in microbiology from the University if Oklahoma.
Wrestler Kevin Roberts, a senior sociology major at the University of Oregon, received the Emerald Athletic Award. He finished his college wrestling career third on Oregon’s all-time list for victories with 101. A two-time All-American at 118 pounds, he placed second at the Pac-10 Championship the past three seasons and qualified for the NCAA four times. He is the son of Don and Nancy Roberts, Spokane.
Corinne Krauss, a junior at Montana State University, Bozeman, received the Sue Burton Cannon Memorial Award for excellence in modern languages.
Krauss, a student in the University Honors Program, is a wellness director for a residence hall, secretary of Alpha Phi Omega and a mentor for the Bozeman Public Schools’ Gifted and Talented Education Program. She is the recipient of a National Merit Scholarship, a Montana Space Grant Scholarship and an MSU Presidential Scholarship. She graduated as valedictorian from Cheney High School and is the daughter of Ted and Lora Krauss.
Erica Glein, Fairchild Air Force Base, has been awarded a Presidential Scholarship at Henderson State University, Arkadelphia, Ark. It covers tuition for four years.
Kerry Michelle Fleiger, a mathematics and physics major, graduated cum laude from Luther College, Decorah, Iowa.
Peter Henderson, Spokane, received a master’s degree in music from Indiana University.
Janet Lynn Simpson, daughter of Wilfred and Martha Simpson, received the Nilsen Foundation Award from the College of the Ozarks, Point Lookout, Mo. She is a 1991 graduate of North Central High School.
Heather Jennings, daughter of Marilyn Jennings, Coeur d’Alene, and Everett Jennings, Spokane, received a Bachelor of Arts in economics from Simmons College, Boston. Jennings was president of the economics liaison group and the recipient of the Patricia Anne McGrory Award.
Brian Guastella, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank C. Guastella, Spokane, received the Ned Doyle Prize Scholarship at Hamilton College, Clinton, N.Y., where he is a junior.
Sarah Corbett, daughter of Wendy Dennis, Spokane, and Robert Corbett, El Paso, Texas, received the Eliza A. Drew Prize in International Studies from Hamiline University, St. Paul, Minn. She is a senior majoring in international studies.
Michelle Bligh, Spokane, received a Bachelor of Arts in anthropology from Pomona College, Claremont, Calif. She graduated magna cum laude and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.
Steven Marsh, Cheney, received his Bachelor of Science in environmental engineering from Montana Tech., Butte.
