Shadow Win Streak Hits Seven
The visiting Spokane Shadow, despite having lost Kiernan Barton to a red card, rallied from a one-goal deficit to beat Willamette Valley 2-1 Friday night for their seventh consecutive win.
Kiernan’s ejection came shortly after Willamette Valley (3-8 overall, 3-4 league) took a 1-0 lead on Lennie Quashie’s unassisted goal at the 18-minute mark.
Still, Spokane’s (10-2, 7-1) Zane Higgins got the first of his two goals at the 38-minute mark off a free kick from Stuart Rose.
“Playing a man down, we knew our work was cut out for us,” Shadow coach Einar Thorarinsson said.
Finally, at the 65-minute mark, on a freak play, WV goalie Colin McMillan tried to clear the ball, which instead ricocheted off Higgins’ foot and into the net.
