Bandits, North Stars Split Doubleheader

The Bandits used a powerful hitting attack to defeat the North Stars 11-3 on Wednesday at Al K. Jackson Field in AAA Legion action in game one of a double-header.

In the second game, the North Stars broke out their bats and beat the Bandits, 17-10.

In the first game, Chris Krieder led the team with three hits - one of which was a triple - while scoring two runs, and teammates Joe Jeffries, Justin McKitterick, Nick Schuerman and Jeremy Van Voorhis each had two as the Bandits pounded out 14 hits.

Pitcher Nick Spunich was credited with the win. The eight-run rule was in effect and the game was shortened to six innings.

For the North Stars, John Barneson and Sam Hess each had two hits. Pitcher Rob Elmer took the loss.

In game two, Hess got three hits and Grant Reeves followed with two as did Jim Geyer and Jeremy Bailey. They paced a 17-hit attack in that game. The North Stars were also aided by five Bandits’ errors.

Between Reeves, Hess and Bailey, they drove in nine runs and scored six. Reeves also hit a 3-run homer in the fifth.

All-star rosters announced

The rosters for the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association All-Star games were announced.

The first two games will be played June 19 at Gonzaga University. The AA-AAA game will be played at 6 p.m. followed by the A-B game at 8 p.m.

The teams will play again on June 20 at Seattle Pacific University. The A-B game will be at 6 p.m. followed by the AA-AAA game at 8 p.m.

As for the B-8’s, some local players representing the east team will be Phillip McClanahan and Jayson Melcher, Odessa; Joe Pakootas, Clint Desautel and Jason Schumacher, Inchelium; Shawn Larkin and Joe Kinch, LaCrosse/Washtucna.
