Beginning at noon today, Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) will sponsor a continual showing of the film “Straight From the Heart” at the downtown branch of the Spokane Public Library, 906 W. Main. The free program will continue until 8 p.m., and discussions will be held after each screening.
On Friday, the critically acclaimed documentary “The Celluloid Closet” will begin its run at the Magic Lantern Cinemas with a 7 p.m. benefit showing. Donations of at least $6 will be requested.
On Saturday, the Spokane AIDS Network is holding its 1996 Walk of Life beginning at 10 a.m. in Coeur d’Alene Park in Browne’s Addition. Registration starts at 8:30 with opening ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. A crafts fair, along with live music and food, will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration is open up to the morning of the walk. The walk is 4.5 miles. No registration fee is required, but participants are asked to find sponsors. Sponsor sheets can be found in any Starbuck’s and at the network’s office, 905 S. Monroe.
Prizes will be awarded to those with the highest pledge amount, and those raising as little as $15 will receive an official Walk ‘96 water bottle. Other prizes will be awarded for higher pledge amounts.
And at noon on Sunday, the annual Gay Pride Parade will be held in downtown Spokane. Parade participants should gather in the parking lot of the Spokane Civic Theatre at 11 a.m. The march will end in Riverfront Park.
