WSU, Ruff Apply Whipping To Cal

Jenni Ruff scored 22 of her game-high 33 points in the second half as the Washington State Cougars raced past the California Bears 90-77 in a women’s Pacific-10 Conference game Thursday night at Berkeley, Calif.
The Cougars (13-4, 4-2) trailed by a point at halftime, 38-37, but exploded in the second half, outscoring the Bears 53-39 over the final 20 minutes.
Kristin Erickson scored 16 for WSU, while Yvonne Kunze added 15 and hauled in a game-high and career-high 17 rebounds.
Julie Wight chipped in with 13 points for WSU as the Cougar starters accounted for all but four of the team’s points.
California (5-11, 1-6) was paced by Eliza Sokolowska with 18 points, while Jennie Leander added 12 and Kerri Barrett scored 10. Leander also had 11 rebounds.

The Lumberjacks (8-8, 2-3) used a strong second half to beat the Eagles (4-13, 2-2) at Flagstaff, Ariz.
Eastern’s Kristy Missall sizzled from the floor and finished with a game-high 22 points on 10-for-14 shooting. Missall, Kelly Bartleson (12 points) and Nicole King (12) made 22 of Eastern’s 30 field goals.
Northern Arizona was led by Keturah Mattox’s 20 points.

The Wildcats (8-9, 2-3) had four players score in double figures as they went on to route Idaho (6-11, 2-2) in Big Sky Conference action.
“We played awful tonight,” Idaho head coach Julie Holt said. “We went out scared and intimidated and they blew us away in the first five minutes. This was an important game for us and there is not any excuse for the way we play in these types of games.”
Five-foot-three junior point guard Ari Skorpik, who was a combined 0-9 from the field in her last two games, led the Vandal attack as she finished with a team high 13 points and six rebounds.

Jamila Wideman had 18 points to lead No. 6 Stanford to its seventh straight win over Washington at Palo, Alto, Calif.
Vanessa Nygaard added 11 points and 13 rebounds for Stanford (14-2, 7-0).
“I think the key was Jamila’s ability to take people to the hole, one-on-one,” said Stanford interim coach Amy Tucker.
Freshman guard Jamie Redd had 16 points and six rebounds for Washington (10-7, 4-2)
