Wild Journal Founded

Wilderness

Global interest in wilderness issues has sparked a new professional publication, International Journal of Wilderness.

Featured in the first issue are articles by Jon Roush, president of the U.S. Wilderness Society; Ian Player, prominent South African conservationist, and several features on wilderness in Finland, which enacted the world’s most recent wilderness law, said John C. Hendee, the journal’s managing editor.

Hendee is director of the University of Idaho Wilderness Research Center and professor of resource recreation and tourism.

The journal is a forum to link wilderness professionals, scientists, educators and interested citizens around the world with wilderness research; inspirational ideas; planning management and allocation strategies; education, and practical issues of wilderness stewardship, Hendee said.

Subscriptions are $30 per year for individuals and $50 for organizations. Info: (208) 885-2267.
