Chiefs’ Rally Falls Short At Portland

The Portland Winter Hawks scored four goals on seven shots in the second period Friday night, then withstood a late Spokane Chiefs rally for a 5-4 Western Hockey League victory.

It was the Winter Hawks’ eighth straight win while the Chiefs dropped their fourth straight.

Richard Zednick, who was in the Portland lineup Friday for the first time after returning from the World Junior Tournament, had two goals. Zednick has 10 of his 31 goals this year against Spokane.

Martin Cerven had two goals for the Chiefs, his sixth and seventh of the year. Darren Sinclair and Dmitri Leonov also had goals for Spokane.

The Chiefs return home tonight to face WHL West Division leader Tri-Cities.
