Lake City Boys Draw Meridian For State Opener

The Lake City High School boys basketball team has learned which team it will face in the opening round of next week’s State A-1 Tournament at Holt Arena in Pocatello.

Lake City (18-4 overall), which tied with defending champion Centennial in the final state prep poll, will take on Meridian (14-9). Tipoff next Thursday will be at 2:15 p.m. PST.

Meridian defeated Capital 60-58 in a seeding game Wednesday. Meridian is coached by former Kellogg coach David Roberts, who resigned after last season to take the A-1 job near Boise.

Post Falls (12-9), which hopes to make a second straight trip to state, will meet Capital in a winner-to-state, loser-out game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Grangeville High School.

The winner will take on District VI champion Rigby (18-6) in the final game of the opening day at 7.

The postseason finally begins for Wallace on Saturday, and it may be a one-game season.

Wallace (8-11), an A-3 independent, will meet the Central Idaho League’s district runner-up, Grangeville (16-7), at Moscow Junior High School. Tipoff is scheduled at 2 p.m. The winner advances to state, starting next Thursday at Skyline High School in Idaho Falls.
