Jerry Rice Nips Brother In 200 At Swim Finals
Whitworth twins Jerry and Jeff Rice finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 individual medley on the first day of the Northwest Conference of Independent Colleges Swimming Championships at Whitworth College on Thursday.
Both the Whitworth men and women hold leads heading into the second day of the three-day meet. The men hold a 10-point edge on Pacific Lutheran 147-137 while the women lead Willamette 139-138.
Jerry Rice’s time of 1 minute, 55.94 seconds broke a meet record by 1.5 seconds. Jeff Rice finished in 1:55.98.
The Rice brothers combined with Jeremiah Pappe and Guy Mikasa to win the 200 freestyle relay in 1:27.24.
The Whitworth women won the 200 freestyle relay in record time, finishing in 1:41.30. Whitworth also won the 400 relay, finishing in 4:05.09.
Whitworth’s Jan Okada and Dorian Reese were 1-2 in the 200, Okada clocking 2:15.11 and Reese 2:15.79.
