State Police Arrest Idaho Murder Suspect
A southern Idaho man, wanted on a charge of murdering his friend, was arrested by state police Tuesday in Kootenai County.
Jerry G. Cloward, 45, of Challis, was stopped by three officers on U.S. Highway 95 near Chilco. Authorities had been looking for Cloward since Sunday, when he allegedly shot and killed another man in Custer County.
Cloward was driving southbound on Highway 95 when he was spotted by a Boundary County officer transporting a prisoner to the Kootenai County Jail.
The officer recognized Cloward’s car and license plate number from a description sent to law enforcement agencies. The officer radioed for help and three Idaho State Police officers pulled over Cloward.
He was arrested without incident and is being held in the Kootenai County Jail on a first-degree murder charge.
ISP Sgt. Jay Jensen said a rifle Cloward allegedly used in the murder was found in the car.
