Hayden Man Held In Killing
Sheriff’s detectives arrested a 37-year-old Hayden man Friday on suspicion of murder.
Frederick “Rick” Donohoe is suspected of killing a Kansas City man and leaving his body in a field six miles northwest of Hayden, said Capt. Ben Wolfinger of the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies found Daniel J. Bonin’s body in the brush near Ohio Match and Ramsey roads Monday.
It appears the 33-year-old man died after being struck by a car, Wolfinger said.
Bonin came from Kansas City to visit his family in Hayden. Family members last saw him Sunday when he left his parents’ house for an afternoon walk.
Investigators believe that Bonin and Donohoe met at Pub 95 in Hayden, Wolfinger said. Witnesses identified Donohoe as the last man seen with Bonin on Sunday, he said.
On Monday evening, three teenage boys were riding dirt bikes on a trail when they came across a pool of blood near Ramsey Road. Deputies found Bonin’s body nearby.
Investigators on Friday asked Donohoe to bring his car into the county shop to be inspected.
When he complied, investigators discovered evidence on the bottom of the car that Bonin had been struck by that vehicle, Wolfinger said.
Investigators have not yet pinpointed the time of death and do not know if Bonin died immediately after being hit.
Donohoe was arrested shortly after 6 p.m. and booked into the Kootenai County Jail.
