Ethel Rothrock Spokane

Memorial service for Ethel C. Rothrock, 86, will be at 3 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Born in Ludington, Mich., Mrs. Rothrock died Thursday.

She moved to Spokane with her family when she was 10 years old. Rothrock graduated from North Central High School and worked at the Bon Marche for many years as a bookkeeper.

She also worked as a bookkeeper for Rosauers and retired in the late 1960s.

During World War II, she worked for the Great Northern Railway.

Her husband, Richard Rothrock, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one son, Larry Blandy of Spokane; three daughters, Dona Burd of Vancouver, Wash., June Brouillet of Seattle, and Shirley Grandinetti of Spokane; one brother, Lyle Loree of Ephrata, Wash.; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

James Herres Rock Island, Wash.

Visitation for James R. Herres, 50, was Sunday at Telford’s Chapel of the Valley in East Wenatchee. Rosary was Sunday at the funeral home. Burial Mass is set for 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Wenatchee with burial at Evergreen Memorial Park in East Wenatchee.

Mr. Herres, a former Spokane resident, died Wednesday at home.

He was born in Spokane and graduated from Mead High School and Washington State University, with a degree in agriculture/horticulture.

In 1968 he married Patricia Glodt in Spokane, and they settled in Toppenish, Wash., where he was a foreman for the Del Monte Corp. through 1971.

Later he was a managing partner in a 640-acre irrigated farm in Eltopia, Wash., for 16 years.

In 1990, he and his family moved to Rock Island and he worked for the Department of Agriculture in pesticide management as a chemical specialist.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jaret Herres of Spokane and Bret Herres of Rock Island; one daughter, Brin Herres of Ellensburg, Wash.; three brothers, Tom and Ken Herres, both of Pasco, and Jack Herres of Spokane; four sisters, Sandy Bergstresser of Spokane, Sally Thomas of Colville, Wash., Mary Merkl of Ephrata, Wash., and Kathy Swan of Seattle; his parents, Lewis and Edna Herres of Kennewick; and his grandmother, Maria Sepp of Pasco.

Memorial contributions may be mad to the Children’s Home Society or Interfaith Volunteer Service.

Mabel Phelan Spokane

Memorial service for Mabel H. Phelan, 88, was Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Born in Lancaster, Pa., Mrs. Phelan died Wednesday.

She was a 19-year Spokane County resident and was a homemaker.

Her husband, Joseph Phelan Sr., preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter-in-law, Dianna Phelan; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Beatrice Heard Spokane

Service for Beatrice N. Heard, 93, is set for 11 a.m. today at the Church of Prophecy. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Heard, who was born in Virginia, died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 32 years.

She was a member of the Church of Prophecy.

She is survived by one daughter, Watheria Phinisee of Pittsburgh; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Millard Evenson Sandpoint

Service for Millard C. Evenson, 86, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Evenson, who was born in North Dakota, died Wednesday.

He grew up in Montana, and received a forestry degree from the University of Montana. He later served as a foreman for the Civilian Conservation Corps in Yellowstone National Park. He worked as a ranger in various parts of Montana and moved to Sandpoint in 1944.

Mr. Evenson was in charge of timber management for the Kaniksu National Forest, retiring in 1964. He later worked in his own cedar patch at Wrencoe.

He loved traveling. He was president of the Washington School PTA and helped establish the Mirror Lake Youth Program. He also was director of the Sandpoint Duplicate Bridge Club.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ruth; two sons, Wayne Evenson of Bremerton and Loren Evenson of Virginia; two daughters, Audrey Schertz of Coeur d’Alene and Kristine Carter of Alaska; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Orson Daines Spokane

Service for Orson A. Daines, 84, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, East Stake Center. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Daines, who died Thursday at home, was born in Cardston, Alberta.

He married Marion Nelson in 1943 in Cardston and they moved to Spokane in 1956.

He worked for Kaiser Aluminum for 11 years and owned and operated Daines Electric for 15 years. He retired in 1990.

He served as a flying officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II.

Mr. Daines was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Spokane 18th Ward.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marion Daines; four sons, Bernard and Eric Daines, both of Spokane, and Daniel and Nolan Daines, both of Fremont, Calif.; four daughters, Gail Baltich of Clearwater, Fla., Suzanne Jones of Mesa, Ariz., Michele Nelson of Spokane, and Diane Tippets of Palmdale, Calif.; one brother, Robert Daines; one sister, LaJean Tanner, both of Cardston; 36 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Darrell Everhart Spokane

Memorial service for Darrell B. Everhart, 71, is set for 1 p.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Everhart, a 51-year Spokane county resident, died Thursday. He was born in Marcus, Iowa.

He moved to Spokane in 1945.

He served in the Navy from 1942 until 1957 and received the Purple Heart.

He joined the Air Force in 1957 and retired in 1968.

He then sold real estate with Alvin J. Wolff and Pioneer Realtors.

Mr. Everhart was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Lois Everhart; one daughter, Suzan Mellish; one son, Bernie Everhart, both of Spokane; one stepdaughter, Sharon Windhorst of Spokane; one brother, James Everhart of Gretna, Neb.; two sisters, Ellen Murray of Alliance, Neb., and Lela Mae Everhart of Omaha, Neb.; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
