Still Time To Get Tickets To Olympics

Associated Press

Limber up your dialing fingers and grab the phone: Olympic tickets are going on sale again.

Though most prime events sold out in an initial offering last year, almost 4 million tickets are left to sell. They’re available by phone beginning at 9 a.m. EST Saturday.

Hoping for a big opening rush, ACOG’s order takers will work overtime this weekend.

Orders will be taken on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Afterward, ticket hours will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Except for this weekend, tickets will not be sold on Sundays.

Orders will be confirmed immediately over the phone.

There are some big limitations:

- COG will accept only Visa cards for payment. Customers who don’t have one will be referred to another line to apply for a card.

- There are far fewer events to choose from. Though a few marquee events, including track and field, have scattered availability, most of what remains are seats to such sports as soccer, baseball and field hockey.

Organizers are hoping the recent announcement of the baseball matchups, including a much anticipated game between Cuba and the United States on July 28, will fire up interest.

With the largest inventory of tickets in Olympic history, Atlanta organizers need to sell many more seats to make their budget goals. Phone sales will continue through the end of the Games. Box offices will open in June.
