The Slice Get Ready For That Gold Badge

What exactly, in 1996, is the code of the West?

The reader submitting the best answer in writing by 5 p.m. Wednesday will be named honorary marshal of Sliceland.

Customer for life: Luann Doughty has been a fan of the Adams Tractor Company ever since she got great service during a search for a tire for an old combine back in 1957.

Most talented channel surfers: Mike Nettles was nominated by his wife, Jeri. “He is so expert at changing the channel that if I blink I’m watching another show.”

Marcie MacDonald described Scott Shattuck’s ability to zip through the channels at warp speed while still managing to make disparaging remarks about every show.

Marcia Kelly said her husband, Mark, surfs like a man on a mission. “I believe he’s searching for some obscure cable channel that just doesn’t exist,” she said.

Lisa Evans was nominated by her mom. And another reader said Dale Lewis hits speeds of up to 50 mph.

Several firefighters were mentioned as was someone identified by callers only as “The Harv.”

We’re not sure who The Harv is, but we think that would be a good name for a trophy presented to the Spokane area’s top channel surfer.

“For outstanding achievement in the couch potato arts and sciences in 1996, The Harv goes to….”

Just wondering: Has anyone besides our friend Diane done a double take when overhearing from another room the bread commercial that makes reference to the handiwork of a “master baker”?

Spokane is from Mars, New York is from Venus: A mother and her 9-year-old son, Danny, were driving on Broadway when the boy asked “Where are all the dancers?”

Tale of two Vancouvers: A columnist in Maclean’s magazine wondered if it isn’t time for British Columbia to drop the “British.” And we think it is a fine idea. One step closer to annexation by Washington.

Warm-up question: How often do people who bring their lunches to work or school wind up grabbing the wrong one when mealtime arrives?
