Art Long had a season-high 16 rebounds in limited action and Danny Fortson dominated inside with 24 points as No. 5 Cincinnati showcased its versatility and beat Illinois State 91-57 early Saturday in Cincinnati.
The Bearcats(16-1) surged to a 20-point lead midway through the first half and didn’t let up, letting Bob Huggins tie for most basketball coaching victories in the school’s 95-year history.
Huggins is 154-59 in his seventh season. George Smith’s teams were 154-56 in eight seasons in the 1950s.
Huggins has groused about the Bearcats’ inability to put over-matched teams away. They had no such problem against Illinois State (14-7), a team that didn’t have the height or depth to keep up.
Long’s 16 rebounds were one shy of his career high.
